RICHARD WAGNER - DAS RHEINGOLD
Richard Wagners gewaltige Tetralogie zu vergegenwärtigen, bedeutet Arbeit am Ring. ´Rheingold raubte Alberich, schmiedete einen Ring, band durch ihn seine Brüder´ raunt die erste Norne im Textentwurf zu Siegfrieds Tod. Wagner ist 35 Jahre alt, als er 1848 die Geschichte vom Ende her zu erzählen beginnt. Den prophetischen Gesang der Nornen führt er in Das Rheingold in ein Märchenspiel aus Kindertagen über. Der eine Mächtige darin, Alberich, wird zur Entsagung der Liebe gezwungen und rächt sich mit der Schaffung eines gewaltigen Imperiums in Nibelheim. Der andere Mächtige, Wotan, versucht, die seiner Familie drohende Katastrophe durch den Prunkbau von Walhall abzuwenden. Das Rheingold ist eine wunderbare Synthese aus Zaubertheater und Familiensaga, ohne die Geschichte, Religion und Mythos nicht denkbar wären. Am Ende scheint es, als erzählte jemand dieses Ursprungsmärchen, damit Traum und Trauma von Liebe und Krieg in Die Walküre entstehen können.
Arthaus Musik präsentiert mit „Das Rheingold“ die Eröfffnung der Ring-Tetralogie Richard Wagners aus dem Nationaltheater Weimar. Unter der Musikalischen Leitung von Carl St. Clair und in der Inszenierung von Michael Schulz wurde der Weimarer Ring von Presse und Publikum frenetisch gefeiert. Ein Muss für Liebhaber der Kompositionen Richard Wagners.

Outside Germany, the name Weimar tends to evoke mixed feelings and pictures of German history of the last hundred years. Within Germany, Weimar means a town in the state of Thuringia arguably saturated with the “Deutsche Kultur” of the “Weimarer Klassik”, the legendary Bauhaus, and fi nally the life and work of Franz Liszt and his son in law Richard Wagner. In Weimar Richard Wagner began composing the fi rst part of his RING-cycle, “Das Rheingold”.
In 2008 the Nationaltheater Weimar started a new production of this unique tetralogy. The conductor is Carl St.Clair, a former student of Leonard Bernstein. With Michael Schulz’ fi ne and highly intelligent staging this new “Ring” production on DVD and Blu-Ray becomes an outstanding document of contemporary opera theatre.
